We are looking for two experienced Retail Assistants, who enjoy working as part of a productive team and is passionate about providing consistently exceptional customer service to join our Retail team. Our Retail Assistants provide a welcoming and efficient service to the public, artists, contractors, consultants and promoters using the Southbank Centre.
With excellent interpersonal and communication skills, the ideal candidate will be able to: work well and communicate with a wide range of people; deal with enquiries from and provide assistance to the Southbank Centre shop's diverse range of customers and be confident in their ability to maximise potential sales and identify opportunities to increase sales.
You will have demonstrable experience in a retail sales background, good numeracy skills and be confident with cash handling and debit/credit card transactions. With a flexible approach to work, you will be confident in your ability to use your initiative in difficult situations. Finally, you will have an empathy with Southbank Centre's mission to make the arts available to all, and be ready to utilise your existing retail skills and experience to provide all of Southbank Centre visitors an exceptional level of customer service.
The successful candidate is required to start in this position on 5 March 2018.

Job Objectives In co-operation with all other Southbank Centre staff, to provide a welcoming and efficient service to the public, artists, contractors, consultants and promoters using the Southbank Centre
Main Responsibilities
  • Serving customers in the shop at a designated Till Point, handling cash and credit/debit card transactions.
  • Answering customer enquiries in person and over the telephone, assisting customers to find appropriate books, catalogues and/or merchandise in stock, and taking online order requests.
  • Providing an outstanding customer and retail experience for every customer, by providing information about the shop, our products, the Southbank Centre and its programme.
  • Cashing-up the tills in the evening.
  • Ensuring the retail outlets and displays are kept clean and tidy, and that all storage areas are kept accessible to colleagues, and that any problems are drawn to the attention of the Senior Retail Assistants, Retail Operations Manager and Head of Retail and Buying.
  • Recommending stock items for re-order, and in consultation with the Senior Retail Assistants, Retail Operations Manager and Stock Controller, recommend new items for stock.
  • Replenishing the catalogue stock or the general stock within the retail outlets on a daily basis and displaying new stock items, as required.
  • Ensure stock losses are minimal by maintaining a high level of awareness and alertness.
  • Report all thefts and potential thefts to the attention of the Senior Retail Assistants and Retail Operations Manager
  • Assisting with the unpacking of deliveries as required, checking these against the invoices and drawing discrepancies to the attention of the Senior Retail Assistants, Shops Manager or Stock Controller, and bar coding stock items as required.
  • Moving boxes to or from the loading bay/caged store off the loading bay and to or from the shop by means of correct manual handling procedures as requested by the Senior Retail Assistants or Shops Manager
  • Assisting with regular stocktaking procedures as directed by the Senior Retail Assistants or Retail Operations Manager.
  • Any other duties reasonably requested by the Senior Retail Assistants, Retail Operations Manager and Head of Retail and Buying.
Person Specification We are looking for someone who:
  • Has experience in a retail sales background;
