Part time (approx. 16 hours per week), Term-time only
Weekdays (6.30 pm – 11.00 pm) and Weekends (3.30 pm – 8.00 pm)
The University Library is seeking applications for the post of Supervisor for the team providing front line library and computer user support during the evening hours. The successful applicant will be a member of a small team, responsible for the efficient and effective day to day running of customer focused computing, information and student administration support services, during the evening hours in one of our libraries. Working alongside colleagues delivering front line services, specific duties include: liaising for a seamless service handover, overseeing daily routines, preparation of staff timetables, monitoring workloads, supervision, training and support for Library Assistants (Evening and Weekend), plus taking responsibility to interpret and apply Library Services regulations, as required under the direction of the Library Services Manager. As a member of the evening team you will work on a rota basis over 7 days a week from September to May and you will work more evenings during the peak study periods. Reliability and some flexibility are required to maintain the advertised opening hours.
You should be qualified to GCSE level, or equivalent, Grades A-C in five subjects, including English and Maths; candidates who lack formal qualifications but can offer significant, relevant experience may also be considered. Essential criteria are excellent customer care skills, good team working skills and the ability to work in a fast paced and changing environment, with a willingness to acquire new skills as required. You should be organised and methodical, a good communicator and be able to supervise, motivate and train staff. A good working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications software, web browsers and email is essential. Previous work experience within computer, library, or information work and/or experience of working with the public/community service is essential. You must be able to attend occasional weekday training sessions.
